Arwen Undomiel

Welcome to the biography page for Arwen Undomiel, the inspiration of AUO's theme!

Arwen Undomiel is the daughter of Elrond and Celebrían. She has older twin brothers Elladan and Elrohir (who aren't really featured in the movies). Her name means "noble maiden" in Sindarin, and her nickname "Evenstar" was given to her as she was the most beautiful of the last generation of the high elves in Middle-Earth.

She is actually part human as her father is half-elf. Her mother was full-elf, and the daughter of Galadriel.

After Aragorn had grown into a man he, while human, seemed to have all the graces of an elf, he went to visit the golden wood where he was seen walking by Arwen. She fell in love with him immediately.

The love between Arwen and Aragorn deeply concerned Elrond, because Arwen was immortal and Aragorn was not. He knew Arwen would be left heartbroken and alone long after Aragorn had passed and her people had left Middle Earth. But Arwen and Aragorn expressed their determination to be together despite these risks, and Elrond gave them their blessings, for he loved them both dearly.

Aragorn left Arwen for several months to help his friends return the ring of Sauron to Mordor where it could be destroyed and thus remove Sauron's evil influence from Middle Earth. Near the end of the war he returned with his friends to Gondor, where he took his place as king and led his people to battle against the Black Gate, in an effort to allow his friends within Mordor a chance to enter Mount Doom and destroy the ring.

After the battle of the ring was won, Arwen went to Gondor and married Aragorn.

Before Frodo left Minas Tirith to return to the Shire, Arwen gave him her Evenstar necklace to help aid him when his wounds troubled him.

Arwen and Aragorn had 3 children: a son named Eldarion, and two daughters whose names we don't know.

At the age of  210 Aragorn was growing very old and felt it was time to pass away (he was a Dunedaín. They live longer than most mortals and can choose when to die).
Heartbroken, Arwen said goodbye to her children and retreated to Lothloríen where her mother's family used to live. She walked the old forests there alone, sorrowing, until finally she laid down on the ground and passed away. White flowers now garnish her grave.

While Arwen could have married one of her own people and had an eternal relationship, she chose to marry the one she loved. She encouraged him to face his fears, believe in his own goodness and will to do what is right, and trust in their love, always. "I would rather share one lifetime with you," she told him "than face all the ages of this world alone."

Arwen was known as being the most beautiful among her people, very wise and having a look in her as one who has seen many things.
